QUADRON (http://myspace.com/quadronquadron) hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark was born when Robin encountered Coco at the suggestion of a friend. Already a name within Owusu & Hannibal and Boom Clap Bachelors, Robin was ready to continue his collaborations with some new adventures. In the ingénue of Coco he saw a female muse, influenced by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill, and the group was born.

After the duo, who are also members of the soul collective Boom Clap Bachelors, enjoyed the accolades of the collectives debut Kort Før Dine Læber (2008); Robin and Coco began work on their own debut recording for Quadron. This lead to the release of their debut, “Quadron”, in Denmark (August 2009). The record found its way into the hands of Anthony Valdez, a DJ at the influential radio station KCRW in LA. He immediately began playing the record and the rest of the DJs followed. Since the end of 2009, Quadron has been a constant fixture in KCRW’s Top 10 and hundreds of top music blogs, and this led to the duo signing to the Los Angeles label, Plug Research, whose roster includes Bilal, Dntel, Flying Lotus, Daedelus and more.

Robin has already enjoyed a long list of collaborations with the likes of Aloe Blacc, Om mas Keith of Sa-Ra, Buraka Som Sistema, Wally Badarou (Talking Heads, Level 42), Erick Sermon, and others as well as being able to site such notable fans as Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.) and James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem). Now, along with Coco, Quadron becomes his next spectacular story!

June. Its’ already June…wow, so fast.
My birthday is coming up in two weeks, and I have lots of plans and tasks to accomplish this month.
Calligraphy workshop this Sunday in Sycamore, live painting at two events, group show, and VISA.
June is an important month that will determine my future – I have been planning projects, events and shows, and working to make them happen. Life is what you design, and life planning brings you excitement. I’ll try to keep updating this blog to inform what’s going on in my life & in the city!

– June 2nd is my dad’s birthday. Born 30 years before me, he is and has always been my educator, master, and my soulmate. Thank you dad, for your love and support, my life is not happening without you. Happy birthday… my love and respect for you.

今週土曜日は、Gallery Heistで6月のショー、Adam Floresの個展「FROM THERE TO HERE」のオープニングレセプションイベントがあります。

This Saturday, Gallery Heist is hosting an opening reception of solo exhibition featuring Adam Flores, “FROM THERE TO HERE”. Come by and enjoy the world of Adam Flores, and don’t forget to say hi to me! ;)

Me.

Taiko.

I shared a booth with Taiko Fujimura, an mixed media artist based in San Francisco.  She is also a member of S.I.R. crew that I organize since the exhibition “Four Elements vol.3  EARTH”.  We arrived at the venue 8:30 in the morning, set up the booth, and welcomed visitors of the Street Fair.  Upon people’s request, I wrote their favorite words, phrases and names in Japanese on a colored origami washi paper.  Thank you everyone who stopped by the booth!

After packing everything up, I headed over to Gallery Heist.  We had an opening night for Brooklyn / Baltimore based artist GAIA.  We had stayed up all night for T-shirts printing and preparing for the show, and explored Mission / Valencia 3 in the morning to hit some walls… Super hectic, but super exciting.  It has been really inspiring days; interacting artists from East coast, immersed  myself in the street art scene, creating, talking, dancing and drinking… made me focus back to my own goal. Aim high!

Four Elements vol. 4 風 -WIND- / Saturday May 1st, 2010 / Final series of four exhibitions.

I had four Japanese calligraphy for exhibition:

We can’t see the form of wind, but we can see the force of wind in our environment – the swinging tree branches, trembling leaves, subtle scent of fragrance, sea waves, or movement of your girlfriend’s hair – in numerous ways.  My theme was to embody this invisible force of wind in three different ways in terms of its strength and seasonal characters through different styles of brush stroke techniques in Japanese calligraphy.

Balmy Zephyr
19×19″

Blizzard
19×19″

春風 Spring Breeze
27×40″

(on the left)

Whirlwind
19×19″

Live painting with Noa-. I started to write “wind” in powder blue.

Removed masking tapes of cherry blossom flower petal. Adding gold shadows.

Thinking where to write my signature next to Noa-‘s…

Thank you for watching, everyone!! ;-)

Awakened by the scents of Springtime released into gentle breezes, animal life rises from hibernation beneath fertile soil into the fresh WIND: the voice of nature.
Through art and media, Surreality in Reality (S.I.R.) has been exploring the elements, WATER, FIRE, EARTH, and now WIND, to bridge cultures with an awareness of nature inspired by the ancient Japanese philosophy of harmony between the four elements. In this final exhibition completing the cycle of our series, the S.I.R. Japanese Art Collective is preparing a space for the invisible force of WIND, it’s power finding expression with a live performance, an exhibition, and in carrying the music.

Atoms for Peace のベースはあのRed Hot Chili PeppersのFlea!!

Art Shows, Calligraphy

Visual Projection by Martin Söderblom

(From upper left: Zaion, Yoko, Tokio, Mika
Lower left: Yasuaki, Hiroko, Pesu, Aoi)

Stepping into a silent desolate field
Dressed in blessings from mother earth

The spirit of nature sketched
Footprints on a parched ground
Swirls in dance rustling the petals of
Dying flowers and leaves of trees

Reaching out to a pale moon
The spirit’s warm kiss embraces all existence
On the planet reviving a sun’s essence

History is nothing more than human evolution
Traced in decomposition and rejuvenation
Cultivated along winding paths where
Spirit empowers even the heartbeat of the earth
Repainting the drone of monotonous undertone
Into vibrant harmonies unfamiliar yet known

Chi (地-earth) Seki (跡-trace)
In celebration makes a
Tangible incarnation of earthy ensemble
Like stars strung by lightening that chime and hum
In delicate breeze pleasantry

Join us as we immortalize life through
Performance, art/installation and sound
Rooted in the movement of nature
Creating space for the
Blossoming spring within

Japanese artists now living in Sweden, San Francisco, and New York explore the theme of ChiSeki through installation, performance, visual and photography in hopes of leaving a trace of human distinctions in reverence of the natural order of life.

ChiSeki features Aoi Yamaguchi, Hiroko Tsuchimoto, Martin Soderblom, Mika Yanaguhara, Zaion, Tokio Kuniyoshi, Yoko Furusho, Akko Terasawa, PESU and Yasuaki Okamoto.

The opening reception event of ChiSeki at 310 Lounge, located on 310 Bowery in New York, will be held on Sunday, March 7th, 2010 from 8pm – 2am. The live performance will begin at 10:30pm on the night of the reception event. The exhibition will be on display through March 14th and is open to the public.
