It’s such a beatiful sunny day today! I went to the meeting for an event that we have been planning to hold in September.  This event, entitled “BRIDGE”, is a mixture of cross-cultural music and art that bridge Africa, Japan and America.  For the music side, Shohei aka Spiritual Odyssey who resides in Hayward will be playing Acid Jazz / House / Soul / R&B, with King Most from Plug Label. An african band with DJ Jeremiah will perform live afro-funk music as well…how exciting!  The organizer Heita invited me to be in charge of the art exhibition.

Shohei, Akira and Aoi

人と人との出逢いは、meant to be。

After the direction of sound have determined, I thought of collaborating with an African artist. I asked Githinji and Akira to be part of this art project, which bridges cultures across the countries. Why them? Not to mention of their wonderful personalities, the colors and the power that I felt from their artworks perfectly fit to the theme. Vivid colors, strong emotions, striking messages, ethinc admiration. Plus, both of them use mixture of various medium in their art creations. At the same time, I have been interested in African culture and art, as well as the importance of music that is essential in their daily life.
“Vibration” connected us.
The power of the art made a circle.
People encounter for a reason – it is meant to be.

I forgot to bring my camera aggggggaaaain (I’m so forgetful recently! donno why.) and I took these pictures with my Macbook using “Photobooth”! What a idea! lol

work in progressHop, step, jump… Write, struggle, write, new ideas sparkle in my head, write, and struggle. I have been working on caligraphy works for my solo installation at Guerilla Cafe for past several weeks. I kept staying up until 4 to 5am for a week straight and I finally had nervous breakdown last night… It’s a good lesson for me: never neglect your health. I’m drinking a Rooibos tea to reset my mind and started feeling better. I know what to do next.

This Monday, SIR crew and I went to Dohatsuten, the Japanese restaurant that I mentioned in the previous post, and installed art works on the wall. I wrote a calligraphy work for the restaurant- it says “天井知ラズ”, which is actually the economical term meaning that the stock goes up and never stops. Like this word, I hope that this art will gather fortune to this restaurant!

There will be an opening party at Dohatsuten coming Sunday, from 5pm-Midnight. Food will be provided from the kitchen… can’t wait!

Palo Alto

Dohatsuten, a casual Japanese Ramen & Tapas restaurant, opened in Palo Alto last week.
I did the calligraphy work for their logo & noren banner – hoping for this restaurant’s success!
My art crew SIR will exhibit art works on the wall inside of this restaurant as well.
Try their Ramen – it’s yum yum!
